  1. China’s Xi Jinping unveils new ‘four comprehensives’ slogans
    Xi Jinping

    • Chinese leader Xi Jinping has unveiled his new political theory, distilled into four slogans known as the “four comprehensives”.
    • The People’s Daily summed up the Four Comprehensives as:
      • Comprehensively build a moderately prosperous society
      • Comprehensively deepen reform
      • Comprehensively govern the nation according to law
      • Comprehensively strictly govern the Party.
  2. A person can be treated as scheduled caste even after re-conversion: SC
    • The Supreme Court on Thursday held that a person can be accorded Scheduled Caste (SC) status on his re-conversion to Hinduism.
    • If he is accepted by fellow caste men and proves that either he or his forefathers previously belonged to that caste before embracing another religion.
  3. Ratan Tata honoured with Doctorate of Automotive Engineering at South Carolina Auto Summit
    • Ratan Tata has been honoured with an honorary Doctorate of Automotive Engineering by the Clemson University at the South Carolina Automotive Summit.
    • Tata joined the Tata Group in 1962. In 1981, he was named chairman of Tata Industries where he was responsible for transforming it into a group strategy think tank and a promoter of new ventures in high technology businesses.

  4. AB De Villiers hits fastest ODI 150
    • AB de Villiers hit the fastest ever 150 in one-day internationals as South Africa condemned West Indies to a crushing 257-run defeat in Sydney.
    • De Villiers took 64 deliveries to reach 150, beating the previous best, set by Australia’s Shane Watson, by 19 balls.
    • He finished 162 not out from 66 balls as South Africa made 408-5, the second-highest total in World Cups.
    • West Indies were 151 all out to equal the heaviest World Cup defeat by runs.

  5. Economic Survey 2014-15 released
    • The survey prepared by the finance ministry’s chief economic adviser Arvind Subramanian on the state of Indian economy was released.
    • Centre forecast GDP growth of over 8 per cent (y/y) in the 2015/16 fiscal year.
    • India must meet its medium-term fiscal deficit target of 3 percent of GDP.
    • Government will adhere to fiscal deficit target of 4.1 percent of GDP in 2014/15.
  6. Kshatrapati Shivaji takes over as new CMD of SIDBI
    • Kshatrapati Shivaji, a 1986 batch IAS officer, has taken over as the Chairman and Managing Director of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).
    • Shivaji has been appointed on deputation basis for a period of three years from the date of his taking over the charge, a Finance Ministry release said.
  7. Gopinath Pillai named as special envoy to AP
    • The Singapore Government has appointed Gopinath Pillai as the special envoy by to Andhra Pradesh to speed up the development of the new capital city.
    • The 79-year-old Gopinath Pillai, who is the chairman of the think tank Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) and an ambassador-at-large for Singapore, was introduced by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Singapore Minister Shanmugham, at Secretariat.
