  1. National Safe Motherhood day observed in April 11th.
    • It is observed to create awareness on proper healthcare and maternity facilities to pregnant and lactating women.
    • It also seeks to create awareness about the institutional delivery, reducing anemia among women and better pre and post natal health care are necessary for mothers.
  2. India to chair 9th IRENA meet in Abu Dhabi
    • India has been designated to chair the ninth meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Council.
    • The meeting is scheduled to be held in June in Abu Dhabi.
    • India is a founder Member of the IRENA. The body is an intergovernmental organisation that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future.

  3. Jitu Rai Wins Bronze at ISSF World Cup in Korea
    • Celebrated Indian shooter Jitu Rai shot his way to a bronze medal in the men’s 10-metre air pistol event at the ongoing ISSF Shooting World Cup.
    • Jitu was the first Indian shooter to earn a quota place for next year’s Rio Olympics when he bagged a silver medal in the World Championships in Granada, Spain last September.

  4. India’s first IFSC becomes operational at GIFT City
    • India’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at GIFT City near Gandhinagar became operational.
    • Finance Minister Arun Jaitley unveiled rules and regulations for this global financial hub.
    • IFSC rules allow companies incorporated outside India to raise money in foreign currencies by issuance and listing of their equity shares on stock exchanges within the IFSC, where individual and institutional investors from India and abroad, including NRIs, would be allowed to trade.
  5. Asteroid named after Malala
    • The youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner and girls’ education campaigner Malala Yousafzai now has an asteroid named after her.
    • Amy Mainzer, astronomer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, named Asteroid 316201 after Malala.
    • Mr. Mainzer discovered the asteroid in the Main Belt between Mars and Jupiter which gives her the right to name it. It orbits the Sun every 5.5 years.
  6. Yuki Bhambri Wins Karshi ITF Futures Trophy
    • Yuki Bhambri clinched the USD 15,000 ITF Futures tournament here on Sunday with a straight-set win over Dzmitry Zhyrmont and ensured that he will get entry into the French Open qualifying event.
    • It was Yuki’s 10th ITF Futures singles title.
  7. Hamilton wins Chinese Grand Prix
    • Lewis Hamilton led teammate Nico Rosberg home for a Mercedes one-two finish in the 2015 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix.
  8. India, France sign 17 agreements during PM Narendra Modi’s visit
    • India and France signed 17 agreements, including on the stalled nuclear project in Jaitapur in Maharashtra, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with French President Francois Hollande.
    • An MoU was signed between Larsen and Tubro and AREVA aimed at cost reduction by increasing localisation, to improve the financial viability of the Jaitapur project.
    • Pre-engineering agreements were inked between NPCIL and Areva which intend to bring clarity on all technical aspects of the plant so that all parties (AREVA, Alstom and NPCIL) can firm up their price and optimise all provisions for risks still included at this stage in the costs of the project.
    • MoU was also signed between Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES) on the Indo-French Megha Tropiques satellite which was launched on board the Indian launch vehicle PSLV on October 12, 2011.
    • A Railway protocol between Indian Ministry of Railways and French National Railways (SNCF) was also inked, seeking to establish cooperation between Indian and French Railways for semi-high speed rail and station renovation.
