  1. Nirbhay Sharma sworn-in as governor of Mizoram
    • Lt general (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma was on Tuesday sworn-in as the governor of Mizoram at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.
    • Justice T Vaiphei, judge of the Gauhati high court, administered the oath of office to general Sharma.
  2. Mumbai Indians defeat Chennai Super Kings to win IPL 2015 for second time
    • Mumbai Indians (MI) has won the eight edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 by defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
    • In the final match played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata they defeated CSK by 41 runs.
    • Player of the Tournament: Andre Russell (KKR).
    • Orange Cap awarded to: David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad).
    • Purple Cap awarded to: Dwayne Bravo (CSK).

  3. ICICI launches voice ‘password’ facility for users
    • Country’s largest private lender ICICI Bank has launched a service where customers can make transactions using just their voice, without using other means of authentication like a password.
    • The voice recognition service authenticates customers based on their speech patterns and allows them to execute banking transactions through the bank’s call centre.
    • Over 33 million savings bank and credit card customers will be able to use the service.
  4. China sets up “largest” gold fund for nations along Silk Road
    • China, the world’s biggest gold producer, has set up a gold sector fund involving countries along the ancient Silk Road which is expected to raise $16.1 billion.
    • The fund, led by Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE), is expected to raise an estimated 100 billion yuan ($16.1 billion) in three phases.
    • China is the world’s largest gold producer, and also a major importer and consumer of gold.
  5. Modi launches ‘DD Kisan’ channel, pushes for farmers’ growth
    • Making a strong pitch for growth of farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a television channel for farmers, DD Kisan, which would provide information about best agricultural practices and related content, to mark the completion of his government’s first year in office.
    • Launching DD Kisan Channel, Modi lamented that present system had left farmers to fend for themselves and there was a need to make the sector “vibrant and dynamic”.
    • He said the country cannot move forward without their progress and called for increase in crop productivity by 50 percent.
  6. MUDRA banks partners with 19 regional coordinators to reach small entrepreneurs
    • Micro Units Development Refinance Agency (MUDRA) Bank has partnered with 19 state and regional level coordinators to reach those small entrepreneurs who are often cut off from the banking system because of a limited branch presence.
    • This initiative is expected to help finance ‘Last Mile Financiers’ of small and micro businesses. These businesses would in turn generate almost 10 times jobs compared to what was being generated by the big companies currently.
