- Gagan Narang earns Rio berth, wins World Cup bronze in 50m prone
- He secured a quota place by winning bronze in the men’s 50m prone event at the Fort Benning World Cup.
- Gagan became third Indian shooter to have won a Rio Olympic berth for the country after pistol shooter Jitu Rai and rifle shooter Apurvi Chandela secured the places at World Championships and Changwon World Cup respectively.
- Shakuntala Gamlin takes charge as Delhi chief secretary despite CM Arvind Kejriwal’s directive
- Shakuntala Gamlin on Saturday took charge as the acting Chief Secretary of the Delhi Government despite being asked by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal not to do so.
- A senior Delhi government official said that in his letter to Gamlin, Kejriwal has said that her appointment is against the set rule.
- Kejriwal’s directive came a day after Lt Governor Najeeb Jung gave the additional charge of Chief Secretary to Gamlin, a 1984-batch IAS officer, hours after she wrote a scathing letter to Jung claiming that she was pressured by a senior bureaucrat in CM’s office not to be in race for the post due to her alleged proximity to BSES discoms.

- Modi inaugurates ICICI Bank’s first branch in China
- To help Indian and Chinese corporates in cross-border businesses, top private sector lender ICICI Bank opened its first branch in China, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- Based in Shanghai, China’s biggest city and a major global financial hub, the new branch would begin with 17 banking professionals handling different functions including corporate banking, operations, finance and treasury.
- ICICI Bank with presence in 17 countries, earlier had a representative office in China, which it had opened over 10 years ago in 2003.
- Government appoints M J Joseph as Controller General of Accounts
- The government today appointed M J Joseph as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) in the Ministry of Finance.
- Joseph, a 1979 batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer, was the Director General of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
- He succeeds Jawahar Thakur (ICAS-1979) who has been appointed as OSD (Accounting Reforms) in the office of CGA.
- Arun Shrivastava assumes charge as Syndicate Bank MD and CEO
- Arun Shrivastava has assumed charge as managing director and chief executive officer of Syndicate Bank on May 15.
- Prior to joining the Bank, Arun was executive director of Bank of India, looking after finance, strategy and planning, large corporate and mid corporate business, corporate debt restructuring, project finance and syndication, credit monitoring and asset recovery, publicity and public relations portfolios of Bank.
- He holds Masters Degree in Science. He is a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers and AIBM. He started his career as direct recruit officer in Bank of Baroda in 1979.
