- The UK has become the first country in the world to legalise the creation of babies using DNA from three people.
- The law allowing the new modified form of IVF treatment has passed despite concerns from church leaders and pro-life groups that it could lead to so-called ‘designer babies’.
- The first baby resulting from this treatment could be born as early as 2016.

- The US on Wednesday announced that it will provide work permits to spouses of H-1B visa holders beginning.
- A move that is expected to benefit thousands of talented and professional Indian spouses who come to America but are unable to work.
- Under existing laws, spouses of H-1B visa holders, many of whom are Indians, are not eligible to work.
- MP governor Ram Naresh Yadav tenders resignation after he is named in exam scam
- Madhya Pradesh governor Ram Naresh Yadav on Wednesday sent his resignation after the Union home ministry asked Yadav to step down after he was named in an exam scam in the state.
- The STF probing the MPPEB scam registered an FIR against Ram Naresh Yadav in connection with alleged irregularities in recruitment of forest guards under various sections of IPC, including 420 for cheating.
- Yadav is perhaps the first Indian governor to be booked in a cheating case.
- R.K. Pachauri steps down as IPCC chair
- After facing allegations of sexual harassment, Dr Rajendra K Pachauri has stepped down as Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
- Dr. Pachauri is also a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change. He was elected to the first of two terms as Chair of the IPCC in April 2002 and had been scheduled to complete his second term in October.
- Vice-Chair Ismail El Gizouli elected as Acting IPCC Chair.
- AAP Government’s First Decisions: Cheaper Power, Free Water, Demolition Ban
- The government has also asked the Delhi Jal Board to work on distributing up to 20,000 litres free water a month to every home.
- Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal directed the finance and power departments to send their proposal on how to cut power tariffs by half.
- AAP also ordered an audit into the finances of three private power distribution companies in Delhi, alleging that they were overcharging consumers.
- Uttar Pradesh unveils Rs 3 lakh crore Budget
- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today presented a Rs 3.02 lakh crore annual budget for 2015-16, 10.2 per cent more than last fiscal.
- In his fourth budget which shows a deficit of 2.96 per cent, Yadav earmarked Rs 9,388.79 crore for new schemes apparently with an eye on the Assembly elections due in 2017.
- For his pet scheme of distribution of laptops among students, he proposed Rs 100 crore.
- To strengthen the transport system in the state capital, a sum of Rs 425 crore has been proposed for the ongoing metro project.
- He also allocated Rs 400 crore to clean river Gomti.
- The government decided to observe 2015-16 as farmers’ year during which various welfare schemes and programmes will be iniated for them.
