- Saloni Dalal becomes the youngest medal winner at 2015 National Games
- Saloni Dalal, a class 7 student from Karnataka became the youngest medallist at the ongoing National Games in Kerala.
- She won the bronze in the 200 m breaststroke event.
- Bihar to provide free education till PG to SC/ST and girl students
- The Bihar government today decided to provide free education to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and girl students till Post Graduation (PG) level in the state.
- The government would reimburse the financial loss to such universities/colleges.
- The move will cost the state exchequer Rs 29 crore annually.
- The landmark decision is expected to impact over four lakh students belonging to the three categories in the state, especially at the PG level.
- e-registration of properties launched in Haryana
- Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday launched e-registration of properties in all the 130 tehsil and sub-tehsils of the State to mark the completion of 100 days of his government.
- To take e-governance to villages, broadband connectivity is being provided to them and in the first phase 2,000 villages would be targeted and by September 2016 another 4,000 villages would be covered.
- Shri Madhusudhan Prasad takes over as new Urban Development Secretary
- Shri Madhusudhan Prasad has taken over as new Secretary in the Ministry of Urban Development.
- Shri Madhusudhan Prasad also served as Economic Counsellor in the Indian Embassy in Washington, USA.
- Government panel to suggest ways to monitor CSR works
- The government has set up a high level panel to suggest a framework to assess CSR activities done by corporates under the companies law.
- The panel, headed by former Home Secretary Anil Baijal, would have members from industry and academia, among others.
- The report of the panel is expected in six months.
- China overtakes US for foreign direct investment
- China has overtaken the US as the top destination for foreign direct investment (FDI), for the first time since 2003.
- Last year, foreign firms invested $128bn (£84,8bn) in China, and $86bn in the US.
- Cisco Systems picks Visakhapatnam as first ‘smart city’
- Visakhapatnam will be the first city to be taken up for development as a ‘smart city’ by Cisco Systems, the global IT networking major and the implementing company.
- The company would focus on setting up a skill development centre and providing training through its global talent tracker. The company is also keen on working with the state government to digitise education and healthcare.
