An operating system acts as an intermediary between the user of a computer and the computer hardware. It is software that manages the computer hardware.
An operating system performs various functions, some of them are:
- Process Management
- Memory Management
- Storage Management
- Security
We will discuss this function in more details in later posts.
Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Ubuntu, Fedora are some the examples of operating system. Ubuntu, Fedora are open-source operating systems. Open-source means they are free to use and re-distribution is not copyright protected.
