- Chris Gayle hits first-ever World Cup double hundred
- Chris Gayle smashed his way into the record books with a devastating double century off 138 balls vs Zimbabwe.
- This is the fastest double ton in One-Day Internationals, beating Virender Sehwag’s knock off 140 balls.
- Gayle became the fourth batsman – after Sachin Tendulkar, Sehwag and Rohit Sharma – to score a double century in the history of ODIs.
- MoU Signed Between Indian Army and State Bank of India
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Army and State Bank of India (SBI) on the Defence Salary Package.
- The first MoU between SBI and the Indian Army was signed in 2011 and was valid for a period of three years. The revised MoU is tailor-made to suit the requirements of serving soldiers, pensioners and families.
- The basic features of the MoU include a number of free / concessional services like free drafts, free cheque books, free funds transfers to any bank in India through RTGS / NEFT, free ATM cards etc.
- Rana Bhagwandas, the first Hindu Chief Justice of Pakistan died
- Former acting chief justice of Pakistan Rana Bhagwandas passed away in Karachi.
- He had been a supreme court judge since February 2000.
- He was the first Hindu and the second non-Muslim head of the supreme court of Pakistan.
- Vintage cars can’t ply on city roads: Green tribunal
- The National Green Tribunal, which had recently banned vehicles older than 15 years from Delhi streets, has now said that even vintage cars fall under the ban.
- An NGT bench directed that no vintage car will be permitted to ply on Delhi’s roads citing its earlier order.
- The order came while hearing a plea filed by Madan Mohan, director of 21 Gun Salute International Vintage Car Rally, who had moved the tribunal seeking permission for a vintage cars to take part in the rally.
- Centre accepts Finance Commission recommendations
- The Modi Government has accepted the 14th Finance Commission’s (FFC) recommendation that the Centre should transfer 42 per cent of divisible pool to the states, including taxes, grants and so on.
- The recommendation is for the five-year period 2015-16 to 2019-20.
- The 13th Finance Commission had suggested these transfers to be at 39.5 per cent.
- In a radical recommendation the FFC headed by former Reserve Bank Governor Y.V. Reddy, has suggested that there be no distinction in the plan and non-plan allocations.
