- E-Samiksha launched to monitor rail projects online
- With an aim of monitoring implementation of various ongoing projects including Rail Budget proposals, railways today launched E-Samiksha, an online monitoring mechanism.
- Designed by NIC, the software is currently being used by Cabinet Secretariat, PMO and other Ministries for monitoring progress implementation of various programmes and follow-up of meetings.
- It will be used to monitor budget-related projects and also for monitoring the infrastructure target and board meeting follow-up.
- ICICI launches near-field communications-enabled payment service ‘Tap-n-Pay’
- Largest private sector lender ICICI Bank in collaboration with Tech Mahindra launched a payment service ‘Tap-n-Pay’ based on the near-field communications (NFC) technology.
- It will enable customers to make over-the-counter payments without using cash.
- It can be used for merchant payments by merely tapping a NFC-enabled mobile phone or a tag on the counter.
- It has been launched in association with Tech Mahindra, will help reduce dependence on cash.
- Former Odisha Chief Minister J.B Patnaik passes away
- Former Governor of Assam and three-time Chief Minister of Odisha Janaki Ballav Patnaik is no more.
- Mr. Patnaik, a veteran Congress leader, was 89 years old and is survived by his wife Jayanti Patnaik, son Pruthvi Ballav Patnaik and two daughters – Sudatta Patnaik and Supriya Patnaik.
- He was born in Puri district on January 3, 1927. He was Chief Minister of Odisha from 1980 to 1989 and again from 1995 to 1999. He was also the Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly from 2004 to 2009.
- India 5th biggest generator of e-waste in 2014: UN report
- India is the fifth biggest producer of e-waste in the world, discarding 1.7 million tonnes (Mt) of electronic and electrical equipment in 2014.
- The ‘Global E-Waste Monitor 2014’, compiled by UN think tank United Nations University (UNU), said at 32%, the US and China produced the most e-waste overall in 2014.
- India came in fifth, behind the US, China, Japan and Germany.
- Neeraj Kumar appointed BCCI’s ACSU chief
- Former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar was, on Monday, appointed as chief advisor of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Anti Corruption & Security Unit (ACSU) for a term of one year.
- It was under Mr. Kumar’s leadership that Delhi Police arrested former Test bowler S. Sreesanth along with domestic spinners Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the sixth edition of the IPL.
- Former Bengal U-19 cricket captain Ankit Keshri dies after on-field injury
- A promising Bengal batsman Ankit Keshri on Monday passed away owing to an injury sustained during a Cricket Association of Bengal’s Senior one-day knock-out match on April 17.
- The 20-year-old, a talented right-hander, had captained the Bengal U-19 team in Cooch Behar Trophy and was in the 30-member India U-19 probables list for the 2014 Colts World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
- He was also playing for Bengal A (U-23 side) in CK Nayudu national Championship.
- Novak Djokovic beats Tomas Berdych to win Monte Carlo title
- Novak Djokovic beat Tomas Berdych to win his second Monte Carlo title and become the first man to win the opening three Masters events of the season.
- The world number one came through 7-5 4-6 6-3 on the clay to extend his winning run in 2015 to 17 matches.
