Daily Dose – 7: GK updates for SBI PO

  1. Anoop Mishra appointed as new Secretary General of the Lok Sabha.
  2. Punjab government has banned the sale of flavoured tobacco and e-cigarettes.
  3. Thailand’s parliament has voted to ban commercial surrogacy.
  4. The World Trade Organization (WTO) approved the first world-wide trade deal- Trade Facilitation agreement (TFA).
  5. Namibia has become first country in Africa to use electronic voting in their presidential election.
  6. Government has announced that as many as 70.43 crore Aadhaar numbers have been generated by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as on November 15, 2014.
  7. Uttar Pradesh has become the first State in the country to take the route of e-governance to provide pension and scholarships to 15 million beneficiaries.
  8. RBI issued draft guidelines for the implementation of Bharat Bill Payment System (BPPS). The ‘anytime anywhere’ centralized payment system is based on a report submitted by the GIRO (Government Internal Revenue Order) Advisory Group.

  10. RBI released Guidelines for Licensing of Small Finance Banks in the Private Sector
    • The minimum paid-up equity capital for small finance banks shall be 100 crore rupees.
    • These banks will cater to marginalized sections of society, including migrant laborers, for collecting deposits and remitting funds.
  11. SBI Mutual Fund announced to launch Shariah equity fund.
  12. 18th South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit held in Kathmandu, Nepal. The next summit will now be held in Islamabad in 2016.
