  1. Chhetri presented with 2014 AIFF Player of Year award
    • National men’s team captain Sunil Chhetri has been presented with All India Football Federation’s 2014 Player of the Year award.
    • This was the fourth time he received the award having earlier won it in 2007, 2011 and 2013.
    • He surpassed the legendary IM Vijayan who won the award thrice.
    • National women’s team striker Bala Devi, who scored 47 goals in 2014, including 18 in international matches, was presented with 2014 AIFF Women’s Footballer of the Year.
    • The AIFF Award for long time contribution was presented to ONGC.
    • 2014 AIFF Award for Best Grassroots Development Programme — was won by Western India Football Association (WIFA).
  2. Parle Products launches nationwide Litter Free Campaign
    • Parle Products has launched its nationwide Litter Free Campaign to urge consumers to ‘show garbage its place’.
    • Parle has launched the first phase of the Litter Free campaign, which is aimed at setting the course for our community and raise awareness with its positive messaging, across the country through a series of Television Commercials.
  3. Arvind Kejriwal sworn-in as Chief Minister of Delhi
    • Arvind Kejriwal on 14 February 2015 was sworn-in as Chief Minister of Delhi.
    • Other than Arvind Kejriwal, six other party members Manish Sisodia, Satyendra Jain, Jitendra Tomar, Gopal Rai, Sandeep Kumar and Asim Ahmed Khan were administered oath as Cabinet Ministers.
    • He became 7th Chief Minister of Delhi as a person and 10th Chief Minister as tenure wise.

  4. Supersonic BrahMos successfully test-fired from INS Kolkata
    • The Navy successfully test-fired the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from its latest stealth destroyer INS Kolkata.
    • It is the largest-ever warship built in India till now.
    • The 290km deadly conventional missile hit its target with pinpoint accuracy during this first-ever vertical launch from the 6,800-tonne INS Kolkata.
  5. RBI to bring back Re 1 note printed by government
    • One-rupee currency notes, which the government had ceased printing in 1994, will soon be back in circulation.
    • The RBI has said that it will soon make available notes of one rupee denomination — pink-green in colour — with the image of the oil exploration rig Sagar Samrat.
    • Unlike other currency notes, which are printed by an arm of the RBI, the one-rupee note was always printed by the government as a substitute for the rupee coin under the Coinage Act.
  6. Virat Kohli becomes first Indian to score century against Pakistan at World Cup
    • Star batsman Virat Kohli on Sunday returned to form in the high-stake game against Pakistan.
    • He also became the first ever Indian cricketer to score a hundred in this ICC World Cup fixture between two arch-rivals
    • In his 126-ball innings, the right-handed batsman made 107 runs with eight hits to the boundary.

  7. Week-long National Tribal Festival begins
    • The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs is organising a week-long National Tribal Festival, ‘Vanaj 2015’, which has a host of activities lined up to showcase the culture of tribal people from across the country.
    • The event is being held at three venues in the city — the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Central Park in Connaught Place.
  8. Geeta Varadan, Tessy Thomas bag Nayudamma award
    • Two women scientists, Tessy Thomas and Geeta Varadan, bagged the Y Nayudamma Memorial Award for the year 2014.
    • Tessy Thomas is Director, Advanced Systems Laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, Hyderabad and Project Director (Mission) Agni V while Geeta Varadan is Director of the Advanced Data Processing Research Institute of ISRO.
    • The award was instituted in 1986 in memory of global leather scientist and former director general of CSIR, Yelavarthy Nayudamma.
  9. Election Commission to launch electoral roll authentication mission
    • Chief Election Commissioner HS Brahma has announced that the Election Commission will launch the Mission of Electoral Roll authentication and purification drive from March 1.
    • Inaugurating a workshop on “Linking of Aadhaar with Electoral Roll Database and Launching of Electoral Roll Authentication and Purification Drive”, at Dr. MCR HRD Institute, Hyderabad on Saturday, he advised all officers to come up with suitable action plan to expedite so that the mission could be completed by August 15th, 2015.
  10. Nagesh Kukunoor’s ‘Dhanak’ honoured at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival
    • Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor’s film “Dhanak” has bagged The Grand Prix of the Generation Kplus International Jury for the best feature-length film and also received a special mention at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival.
    • He was also endowed with euro 7,500.
  11. Indian-origin scientist gets $500k research award
    • An Indian-origin researcher, Professor Srikanth Jagabathula has received a $500,000 award for developing data-driven modelling and learning techniques to improve the accuracy of operational decision making.
    • He is from the New York University Stern School of Business, was recently recognized by the National Science Foundation (NSF) with its Faculty Early Career Development Award (CAREER).
  12. MCX appoints Balasubramaniam Venkataramani as MD & CEO
    • Commodity exchange MCX has roped in BSE’s Chief Business Officer B Venkataramani to head the bourse as Managing Director and CEO.
    • The top post at MCX has been lying vacant since May last year when the then MD & CEO Manoj Vaish resigned.
  13. Chhattisgarh gets award for renewable power development
    • Chhattisgarh was today felicitated for emerging as one of the best performing states in the renewable energy segment.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the award to Principal Secretary of Chhattisgarh’s Energy department, Aman Singh, during the Renewable Energy Global Investors Meet (RE-Invest).
    • “Chhattisgarh has been doing commendable work in renewable energy sector. We are generating 45 MW off grid solar power and 200 MW through rice husk,” Singh told.
