  1. Indian film Jal in running for two Oscars
    • ‘Jal’ is nominated for 87th Academy awards in two categories: Best Picture and Best Original Score.
    • The film was directed by Girish Malik. It features Purab Kohli, Kirti Kulhari and Tannishtha Chatterjee in prominent roles.
  2. Germany wins Hockey Men’s Champions Trophy 2014
    • Olympic champions Germany won 10th Champions Trophy by beating Pakistan 2-0.
    • Furste was named Player of the Tournament.
  3. Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss crowned Miss World 2014
    • Miss South Africa, 22-year-old Rolene Strauss, was crowned Miss World 2014 in London.
    • Miss Hungary, Edina Kulcsar, was judged the runner-up and Miss United States, Elizabeth Safrit, came third in the 64th annual competition.
    • India’s Koyal Rana made it to the top 10 of Miss World 2014 before getting eliminated. She made the country proud by winning the coveted title ‘Beauty With A Purpose’.
  4. Anerood Jugnauth named Mauritius prime minister
    • Former President and leader of the Alliance Lepep party, Anerood Jugnauth, who is of Indian origin, has been officially appointed Mauritius’ new prime minister.

  6. ICICI Bank, American Express launch transparent credit card
    • ICICI Bank launched India’s first credit card with a transparent design.
    • The card, part of ICICI Bank’s ‘Gemstone Collection’, has been launched in association with American Express.
    • The ‘ICICI Bank Coral American Express Credit Card’ will provide benefits on the lifestyle front, including an introductory extended credit period offer and bonus reward points on online transactions.
  7. Asha Bhosle received the lifetime achievement award for her outstanding contribution to music at Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).
  8. Ruhi Singh wins Miss Universal Peace and Humanity title
    • India’s Ruhi Singh became the first ever Miss Universal Peace and Humanity title winner.
    • She has been gratified with USD 50,000.
    • The Miss Universal Peace & Humanity 2014 has been conceptualized by the World Peace Mission Organization under the patronage of the International Human Rights Commission.
