- India has pledged $4 million for the reconstruction of Gaza Strip devastated by the recent Israel-Hamas war.
- Indian female police personnel wins UN’s International Female Police Peacekeeper award
- Inspector Shakti Devi of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been named recipient of the International Female Police Peacekeeper Award 2014 by the UN’s Police Division for her “exceptional achievements” with the UN mission in Afghanistan. She is currently deployed in the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

- Khaled Bahah named new Prime Minister of Yemen
- Bahah was born in 1965. He is from the southern Hadramout province. He holds a masters degree in administration, business and finance; and previously served as oil minister before being appointed Yemen’s envoy to the United Nations.
- India ranked 55th on global hunger index
- As per global hunger Index 2014 report, India ranked 55th which is better than neighbor Pakistan (ranked 57th) but trails behind Nepal (44) and Srilanka(39). Mauritius and Thailand ranked 1st.
- Last year India stood at 63rd position thus an improvement of 8 positions this year.
- The 2014 Global Hunger Index (GHI) was released on 13 October 2014 by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Welthungerhilfe and Concern Worldwide.
- It said that two billion people in the developing world are still under-nourished and suffer from ‘hidden hunger’, with the situation “alarming” in 14 countries.
- Lyricist Sameer honoured with National Kishore Kumar Award for year 2012-13.
- National Kishore Kumar Award is given by the Madhya Pradesh government and carries a cash prize of 2 lakh rupees, shawl, citation and shreefal.
