  1. Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer chosen for K.R. Narayanan Award
    • Eminent Jurist Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer has been chosen for this year’s K.R. Narayanan award for his services to the nation.
    • The award carries a statuette, citation and a ‘ponnada’
  2. Actor Farhan Akhtar is appointed as Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia

    • Bollywood actor-director Farhan Akhtar has become the first man in UN Women’s history to be appointed its Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia.
    • The actor will serve as an advocate for UN Women’s newly-launched HeForShe initiative for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
    • UN Women’s other Goodwill Ambassadors include British actor Emma Watson, Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman and Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of Thailand.

  5. Corporation bank receives Indira Gandhi Official Language award
    • Corporation Bank received Indira Gandhi Official Language Awards instituted by Department of Official Language, Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
    • Corporation Bank received the first prize under Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) category and second prize under Nationalized Banks category.
  6. DD National to be re-launched as ‘Desh Ka Apna Channel’
    • In a bid to attract more viewers, public broadcaster Doordarshan is relaunching its national channel as “Desh ka Apna channel” with a slew of new programming.
  7. Uber launched a wallet based payment system in India
    • Uber has launched a wallet-style payment system in India in the wake of recent regulations.
    • The new payment method now allows customers to essentially pay with their debit card or net banking account, in addition to a credit card as before.
    • The new system, backed up by India-based payment platform Paytm, is effective immediately in the country, although international credit cards can still be used.
