  1. RBI slaps Rs 50 lakh penalty on ICICI Bank
    • RBI today imposed a penalty of Rs 50 lakh on  ICICI Bank and Rs 25 lakh on  Bank of Baroda for violation of KYC norms after they allowed opening of accounts in the name of a statutory body by fraudsters.
    • “The RBI has imposed monetary penalty on the two banks for violation of its instructions, among other things, on know your customer/anti money laundering Know Your Customer (KYC) /Anti Money Laundering(AML),” the central bank said in statement.
  2. Jagran group to acquire Radio City in all cash deal
    • Leading media group Jagran Prakashan (JPL) has announced acquisition of Music Broadcast Pvt Ltd, which operates the popular Radio City FM stations.
  3. Government launches ‘Clean India, Green India’ calendar for year 2015
    • Launching the calender Jaitley said that it “provided a platform for converging the two key flagship schemes of the government – Swachh Bharat and Digital India”.
  4. PETA India names ex-SC judge ‘Man of the Year’
    • Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez and former Supreme Court judge KS Radhakrishnan have been given PETA India’s People of the Year award for their contribution towards the protection of animals.

    • The animal rights organisation named Ms. Fernandez as ‘Woman of the Year’ and justice (retd) Radhakrishnan as ‘Man of the Year’.
  5. Honour for DRDO centre chief
    • G. Satheesh Reddy, Director, Research Centre Imarat (RCI), near Hyderabad, was given the Honorary Fellowship of the Computer Society of India (CSI) during its annual convention and golden jubilee celebrations in Hyderabad.
  6. Modi declares two-minute silence in schools today
    • Modi appealed to all schools across India to observe a two-minute silence on Wednesday “as a mark of solidarity” on the killing of children in a terror attack on a school in Peshawar.
  7. RTGS business hours increased to 12 hours on weekdays
    • To promote electronic payments, the Reserve Bank increased RTGS business hours to 12 hours from 8 am to 8 pm on weekdays, effective December 29.
    • On Saturdays, the RTGS (real time gross settlement) system of online fund transfer will be open from 8 am to 3.30 pm.
    • The existing business hours are 9 am to 4.30 pm on weekdays and till 2pm on Saturdays.
    • The current minimum amount that can be transferred through RTGS is Rs 2 lakh
  8. Sarita Devi banned for a year by AIBA
    • Indian woman boxer L Sarita Devi was handed a one-year ban by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) for refusing to accept her bronze medal at the Asian Games.
    • Sarita, who had refused to accept the medal to protest her controversial semifinal bout loss, has been banned retrospectively from October 1, 2014 to October 1, 2015 and fined 1000 swiss francs.
