  1. BCCL, Flipkart and IndiGo named India’s ‘local dynamos’
    • The Boston Consultancy Group (BCG) has named Bennett, Coleman & Co (BCCL), owner of The Times of India and The Economic Times.
    • It has also named Flipkart and IndiGo alongside as ‘local dynamos’.
  2. Amit Mathew has been selected as the chairman of Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) for the year 2014-15.  He is resident editor and director of Malayala Manorama.
  3. Zomato has acquired Poland’s restaurant search service, Gastronauci.
  4. Google launched new social media campaign to increase internet literacy among women in India.
    • Google has tied up MARD, an initiative started by Bollywood actor-cum-director Farhan Akhtar for women ‘Helping Women get online’ (HWGO).
    • HWGO is launched by Google in collaboration with Axis Bank, Intel and Hindustan Unilever.
  5. Sachin Tendulkar along with Australian former captain Steve Waugh will be inducted as Bradman honouree on October 29.
  6. ASIAN games update
    • India’s star performer Abhinav Bindra picked up individual as well as team bronze in men’s 10m air rifle events.
    • Saurav Ghosal created history by winning India’s first silver medal in Squash. He lost the finals 2-3 to Kuwait’s Abdullah Al Muzayen.
    • Narender Grewal brought bronze for India after losing to Saclag Jean Claude of Philippines in men’s Sanda 60kg Wushu semifinal. He lost 2-0.
    • Yumnam Sanathoi Devi wins bronze after losing to China’s Luan Zhang in women’s Wushu Sanda 52kg semis.
    • Weightlifting – Taiwan’s Lin Tzu-chi breaks two world records to win gold.
