- Defence Ministry Launches Website For Interface With Industry
- Seeking to make defence acquisition process simpler and transparent, the government today launched a new ‘Make in India’ website that will provide an interface with industry and promised to finalise the new revised defence procurement procedure
- Defence Minister hoped that the website (www.makeinindiadefence.com) would act as an enabler for the industry to get the latest news and notification regarding various aspects of the defence production.
- He said the aim is to have 40 per cent of defence procurement under ‘Make in India’ initiative from the current 30 per cent and raising it to 70 per cent indigenisation in the next five years.
- Spain’s ruling conservatives win election but lose majority
- The conservative People’s Party (PP) of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy topped Spain’s general election on Sunday but fell well short of an absolute majority amid a surge in support for anti-establishment parties.
- With 99% of votes counted, Rajoy’s party was seen winning 122 seats in the 350-strong parliament, well below the 186 it now holds – and 54 short of the 176 seats needed for an absolute majority.
- The opposition Socialists came second with 91 seats, trailed by newcomer parties Podemos and Ciudadanos, which took third and fourth places respectively.
- United States lifts 40-year-old ban on oil export
- The United States today lifted a 40-year-old ban on export of oil, thus paving the way for energy deficient countries like India to open up another frontier to import oil from a distant friendly nation.
- Business Roundtable welcomed the move to end the ban on the export of US crude oil, a policy enacted during the 1970s.
- ‘Sainthood’ to be conferred on Mother Teresa
- Mother Teresa, a Roman Catholic religious sister and missionary, will be given ‘Sainthood’, said Sunita Kumar, a Missionaries of Charity spokesperson
- Avvenire, the official newspaper of the Italian Catholic Bishops Conference, said on its website that Pope Francis on Thursday approved a decree recognising a miracle attributed to her intercession with God
- Mother Teresa, who died in 1997 at the age of 87, was beatified in 2003 by the late Pope John Paul. Beatification, which requires one miracle, is the last step before sainthood.
- Mother founded the Missionaries of Charity and spent 45-years serving the poor, sick, orphaned and dying on the streets of Kolkata. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.
