  1. M Sathiyavathy is new Director General of Civil Aviation
    • The government appointed M Sathiyavathy, additional secretary and financial advisor in the civil aviation ministry, as Director General of Civil Aviation.
    • She replaces Prabhat Kumar, who has been removed from the post within a year of his appointment.
    • She is only the second woman officer to hold Director General post after Prem Lal who held the post in early 1980s.
  2. Maharashtra launches online RTI filing facility
    • Maharashtra government today launched an online facility for making application under the Right to Information Act.
    • The website (www.rtionline.maharashtra.gov.in) received 40 applications on the first day.
    • The website, which has both English and Marathi versions, also allows filing of first appeal if the information is denied, etc. It also informs about status of the application.
    • Fee for the RTI application can be paid through internet banking or debit/credit cards.
    • Once an application is filed, the applicant will be given a registration number through SMS and email.
  3. R Koteeswaran takes over as new Indian Overseas Bank CMD
    • R Koteeswaran has taken over as the Chairman and Managing Director of public sector Indian Overseas Bank.
    • Prior to this, Koteeswaran was serving Bank of India as its Executive Director, the Chennai-based IOB.
  4. Gujarat government announces industrial policy for 2015
    • The Gujarat government has announced its new industrial police for 2015 aimed at making the state a global manufacturing hub, ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit set to begin from January 11.
    • Announcing the new industrial policy, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel said it would play a pivotal role in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ dream and make Gujarat a global manufacturing hub
  5. LIC International launches co-branded credit card with UAE’s First Gulf Bank
    • India’s LIC International and Abu Dhabi -based First Gulf Bank are planning to introduce a unique co-branded credit card in the United Arab Emirates to address concerns of insurance policy holders.
    • This is the first time that an insurance firm has entered into a strategic alliance with a bank in the gulf country.
  6. Pakistani fishing boat laden with explosives blows up off Indian coast near Porbander
    • A Pakistani fishing boat, suspected of carrying explosives, was intercepted by the Coast Guard in the Arabian Sea around midnight Wednesday but its four occupants blew it up after a nearly hour-long chase.
  7. K.K. Paul to be Uttarakhand Governor
    • Krishan Kant Paul will be sworn in as the sixth Governor of Uttarakhand on January 8.
    • The current Uttarakhand Governor, Aziz Qureshi, would be transferred to Mizoram.
