- Visitor’s Awards for ‘Best University’, ‘Innovation’ and ‘Research’ presented by the President
- The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented Visitor’s Awards for Central Universities in the categories of ‘Best University’, ‘Innovation’ and ‘Research’ for the year 2015 at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
- The University of Hyderabad received ‘Best University’ Award for academic excellence & overall outstanding work.
- ‘Innovation’ Award was presented to Prof. Vijay K. Chaudhary and Dr. Amita Gupta of University of Delhi for their invention of ‘TB Confirm’, a rapid diagnostic test for Tuberculosis.
- The ‘Research’ Award was received by Cosmology and Astrophysics Research Group, Centre for Theoretical Physics, Jamia Millia Islamia for path breaking research carried out in the field of Astrophysics and Cosmology.
- 60th Filmfare Awards announced
- Shahid won the Best Actor (male) award for his role as Haider Meer in film Haider and Kangana Ranaut won Best Actor (female) award for her role as Rani Mehra in film Queen.
- Best Film award was given to film Queen.
- Kamini Kaushal was honoured with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.
- India’s Dr Zakir Naik wins prestigious King Faisal award 2015
- Dr Zakir A Naik, a non-Arabic Indian Islamic scholar and a renowned authority on comparative religion, has won the prestigious King Faisal International Prize for his service to Islam.
- The prize consists of a handwritten Arabic certificate summarizing the laureate’s work, a commemorative 24-carat, 200-gram gold medal and a cash award of 750,000 Saudi Riyal (USD 199,901).
- Naik, 49, is the founder of the Islamic Research Foundation of India.
- No Beauty Contests For Tamil Nadu Colleges, Says Madras High Court
- Beauty contests and pageants in schools and colleges are banned because they do nothing to further a student’s education, the Madras High Court has ruled.
- The order – delivered yesterday while the court examines the issue further- says it’s unclear ” how ‘walking the ramp’ would benefit a student pursuing a course in engineering.”
- Tata Communications signs $20 million deal with KION Group
- Tata Communications today said it has signed a $20 million multi-year deal with Germany-based KION Group to provide global wide area network (WAN) services to the group’s 330 sites across 30 countries.
- The KION Group is the second largest global manufacturer of forklift trucks and warehouse technology.
- Ajay Banga to the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations
- Ajaypal Singh Banga, who is President and Chief Executive Officer as well as a Board member of MasterCard has been appointed as a member of the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations.
- Modi chairs first NITI Aayog meet
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the state of the economy, especially the farm sector, and sought suggestions for the upcoming budget at the first ever NITI (National Institute for Transforming India) Aayog meeting he chaired in Delhi.
- Economists who participated in the meeting include former Ficci director-general Rajiv Kumar, former RBI governor Bimal Jalan, former RBI deputy governor Subir Gokarn and former chairman, Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices Ashok Gulati.
