  1. RBI allows FIIs to buy upto 49 per cent paid-up capital in Bajaj Corp
    • The Reserve Bank has allowed foreign investors to buy up to 49 per cent of the paid-up capital of Bajaj Corp Ltd.
    • As of quarter ended September 2014, FIIs held 15.21 per cent in the company.
    • “Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs)/Registered Foreign Portfolios Investors (RFPIs) can now invest up to 49 per cent of the paid-up capital of Bajaj Corp under the Portfolio Investment Scheme (PIS),” RBI said.
  2. Petroleum minister launches subsidised cooking gas scheme
    • Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has launched the sale of subsidised five-kg cooking gas cylinders under Free Trade LPG Scheme, benefiting Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and others.
    • He also launched a new scheme providing concession of Rs.1, 600 to BPL families on new gas connections in the country. The move is aimed to make cooking gas easily available to consumers.
    • The consumers will avail the benefits till the end of March 2015.
  3. P Krishnamurthy appointed Private Secretary to Defence Minister
    • IAS officer P Krishnamurthy was today appointed as Private Secretary to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
    • He is presently working as Resident Commissioner at Goa Sadan.
    • He has been appointed for a five-year period or on co-terminus basis with the Minister’s tenure.
  4. S.Shrikrishna wins national sub-junior billiards title
    • Tamil Nadu’s S. Shrikrishna clinched the sub-junior billiards title, defeating top seed Ishpreet Chadha of Maharastra at the National Billiards & Snooker Championship.
  5. Govt approves Neutrino Project
    • Union cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved setting up of India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) in Bodi West Hills, Tamil Nadu.
    • The estimated cost of project is Rs 1500 crore.
    • The project will be jointly supported by the Department of Atomic Energy and the Department of Science and Technology. The infrastructural support will be given by the Government of Tamil Nadu as the project is located in the State.
  6. BCCI announces 15-man World Cup squad; Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa ignored
    India v Australia 6th ODI Nagpur

    • Indian national selectors announced the much-awaited 15-member squad for the ICC World Cup 2015, scheduled to take place in Australia and New Zealand from February 14.
    • The Complete list is: MS Dhoni (c & wk), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Stuart Binny, Umesh Yadav.
    • Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa failed to make the cut, whereas Stuart Binny has been included.
  7. VVS Laxman, Gopichand nominated ambassadors of ‘Swachh Bharat’
    • The Centre has nominated former cricketer VVS Laxman, badminton chief national coach Pullela Gopichand, chess player Koneru Humpy, eminent playback singer S P Balasubrahmanyam and other icons as brand ambassadors for the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign.
    • The others nominated include MPs K Kavitha (TRS), Jayadev Galla (TDP), corporate personalities B V R Mohan Reddy, J A Chowdary, Rameshwar Rao and Dr Gopichand and G S Rao from the medical field, film lyricist Suddala Ashok Teja, Telugu actor Nitin and media personality Vemuri Radhakrishna.
    • The nomination was formally made by Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.
